Tuesday Open Thread (Veterans Day)

Some news items this morning: CNN has the story of a US soldier held in a Nazi slave camp; Obama supports extending bailout aid to auto companies; Citigroup will not initiate foreclosure proceedings against struggling homeowners; the Phoenix Mars lander has gone silent after completing its mission.

Obama lies to MSM; John Podesta cleans up mess.

It seems Obama must have lied to the MSM regarding the details of what transpired during his "secret meeting" with President Bush.  The meeting was between Obama and Bush without any staff present so the only one that could have disseminated the false information was Obama himself.  After the true facts came out John Podesta was dispatched to clean up the mess:

Obama Team: No Quid Pro Quo Talk on Relief for Automakers, Colombia Trade Deal

President Bush did not offer a "quid pro quo" linking relief for automakers to a Colombia Free Trade deal in his meeting on Monday with Barack Obama in the Oval Office, the president-elect's transition team leader said Tuesday.

John Podesta said he wanted to clear up misreporting by newspapers that detailed a leak of the on-on-one meeting between the president and president-elect.

[...]

To be fair an alternative explanation would be that Obama simply failed to understand the details of the discussion he had with President Bush, but I prefer to assume that he is at least intelligent enough to understand a basic conversation.

Obama also seems to be operating under the misconception that he actually IS President already.  Someone should explain to him that he doesn't actually become President until after he takes his oath of office in January.

Luckily President Bush wasn't intimidated by Obama's Chicago Style Political Thuggery, something that promises to be a cornerstone of the Obama administration.

not President, but the leader of Congress

Obama also seems to be operating under the misconception that he actually IS President already.

Obama may not be President, but he is the leader of the party that controls both houses of Congress (and has the option of treading water until Obama IS president). He's discussing a legislative agenda, what's your problem with that?

The meeting was between Obama and Bush without any staff present so the only one that could have disseminated the false information was Obama himself.

No. Anybody could have spread the story, as long as the reporters thought that this person had inside information.

Really, this is a non story.

Secret transcript of the conversation leaked

OBAMA: Mr. President, I really think you should take a serious look at bailing out the auto industry rather than leaving it for me to clean up another one of your giant screw-ups.

BUSH: Well, Barack, I'd do that but, ya know, I've been real concerned about that Juan Valdez guy and that cute little donkey of his. If we don't do something for the District of Colombia he might start smuggling cocaine on that donkey instead of coffee.

OBAMA: Uh, Mr. President, I think you've got your Colombias mixed up. And Juan Valdez is just a fictional ...

BUSH: See, that's just like you Dems. First you dump on Joe the Plumber. Now it's Juan the Coke Dealer.

OBAMA: Say what?

BUSH: I got to admit somethin' to ya, Barry. I can't wait for Jan. 20th. Laura made me promise not to touch a drop while I was president. But as soon as I hit the Texas state line I'm snortin' a line all the way to Crawford. Yee ha!!!

OBAMA: If we could get back to the auto industry thing...

BUSH: Screw em. I never carried Michigan anyway.

OBAMA: But 3 million people might lose their jobs.

BUSH: I'm fixin' to lose my job. Where's my bailout?

OBAMA: I could appoint you ambassador to Colombia.

BUSH: Hmmmm. Do we have an extradition treaty with them?

Here's a random thought ...

Given the impending Global Warming apocolypse, should P. Barry consider banning the use of coal outright as James Hansen seems to want to do, and further halt all domestic production and imports of foreign oil?  We are, after all, the most wasteful and polluting country on the Earth.  The only way we can do our part to reverse this trend that is completely our fault is to stop all use of fossil fuels as soon as possible, right?

Since people in the northern latitudes depend on fossil fuels for their heat in the winters, perhaps he should also consider forced relocations of these people closer to the equator ... at least during the winter months.  Maybe he can send them all to Mexico or something, wouldn't that be ironic?  :)

Thoughts?

You could do your part.

Do your part and don't turn on the heat until after the Ohio State vs Michigan game every year. If people would just do that...

were mostly built without any regard to local climate and concern about the energy required to heat them in the winter or cool in the summer. Now is the payback time for all the shortsightedness.
